Completion Ceremony for the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project in Nigeria Designed by China Nerin
On June 16, 2025, local time, the completion ceremony for the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project in Nigeria, designed by China Nerin Engineering Co., Ltd., was grandly held in Abuja. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhang Yi, and other dignitaries attended the event. Chinese mainstream media outlets such as People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and China Central Television, as well as major local news agencies in Nigeria, provided on-site coverage of the ceremony.

As the "main artery" of the water supply network in Nigeria's capital region, the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project encompasses 422 kilometers of newly constructed water supply pipelines, with a total water supply capacity of 480,000 cubic meters per day. Covering over two-thirds of the urban areas in the capital region, the project has completely transformed the local situation where "water treatment plants could supply water but there were no pipelines to deliver it", meeting the daily water needs of nearly 3 million people and successfully bridging the "last mile" of the water supply system.
Adopting a cooperation model of "Chinese funding + Chinese technology + local needs," this project has become a new paradigm for pragmatic cooperation between China and Africa. In his speech at the ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deliberately said "Xie Xie" in Chinese (which means “thank you”) to express his sincere gratitude to the Chinese side. He pointed out that this project represents a proud milestone for residents of the capital region and indeed all Nigerians, as safe water is a fundamental right that people should enjoy. This transformative project will ensure the safe and adequate delivery of water to more households. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also stated that based on the principles of mutual respect and shared development, Nigeria and China have jointly achieved remarkable cooperation results that have caught the world's attention.
